Section I - General Comments (cont'd.)
Page 2
The remaining two areas being considered as a coal storage site are along
Hubbard Creek. One site is immediately downstream of the mine at the
base of the htllslope west of the stream. The other, and most promising
site, is located above the existing coal pile dust south of the proposed
U.S. Steel ventilation facility. This area has the advantage of being
adjacent to the existing permit area. The question of alluvial valley
floor considerations for the Nubbard Creek drainage was discussed. A
review of the AVF determinations the Division made for U.S. Steel and
Blue Ribbon mine indicates that no alluvial valley floors were found to
exist 1n the entire Hubbard Creek drainage north of Fireman's Canal.
This fact also makes the proposed coal storage sites along Hubbard Creek
favorable from a permitting standpoint.
