Cunningham, Director <br />February 2, 2026 <br /> <br /> <br />Office of Archaeology & Historic Preservation <br />History Colorado Center <br />1200 Broadway <br />Denver, CO 80203 <br /> <br /> <br />Re: Bowie No. 2 Mine (Permit No. C-1996-083) <br /> Technical Revision No. 124 (TR-124) <br /> Revision of Reclamation Plan and Maps Related to the Haul Road to Gob Pile #2 <br /> <br /> <br />Dear Sir or Madam: <br /> <br />The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, <br />Article 33, Section 116, Paragraph 4, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on February 2, 2026 an <br />application to revise coal mining operations at the Bowie No. 2 Mine was considered complete for <br />the purposes of filing. The revision was submitted by Bowie Resources, LLC. All review and <br />comment periods as provided in the Act and the Regulations initiate from this date of filing. <br /> <br />TR-124 will modify the reclamation plan to leave the coal prep plant pad in its current configuration <br />and revise a portion of the haul road from the prep plant to the gob piles. Material generated from <br />the haul road realignment will be used as coverfill to reclaim Gob Pile #2, The applicant is not <br />proposing additional surface disturbance outside of the area currently approved for disturbance. <br /> <br />The underground coal mining operation is on land located approximately 5 miles Northeast of <br />Paonia, Colorado. The permit area is further described as follows: <br /> <br />Portions of Sections 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 16, and 22, Township 13 South, Range 91 West <br />of the 6th P.M. <br /> <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on the following USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle <br />map(s): Gray Reservoir, Bowie. <br /> <br />Because the above-referenced technical revision application may incorporate additional lands into <br />the permit area or might otherwise alter previously approved permit conditions or mitigation <br />measures, we are requesting your agency's evaluation of the potential for impacts to cultural and <br />historic resources.
