Comment/Objection Narrative*
To the DRMS,
It seems that there is finally an entrepreneurial private enterprise that has found an economic incentive to
continue cleaning up the remaining tailings, slag,&waste piles in Lake County&Leadville.
Within the town itself, it is documented that there are at least Six(6)Mine Waste Piles under CDPHE
Institutional Controls located in the residential areas of Leadville(OL19). It is obvious that there are potential to
significant risks to having these piles dotting Leadville's neighborhoods.
If CJK milling is offering to remove this potentially hazardous material from the city and reclaim whatever value
is left from the piles for profit-good for them and good for the current&future generations of Leadville!
I am certain there are risks involved but based on the credibility of the people in support of this project;the
BIGGEST risk is NOT taking one. If no action is taken, the industrial waste piles will continue to leach its metals
and minerals into the rivers&water table forever.
If we don't take advantage of this opportunity, when will the next one come?
As a Lake County licensed business owner, land owner, and recreationist I support and strongly encourage the
regulators to approve this project with whatever permits&approvals are required.
Thank you!
Elliot Hovey
RB Minturn
Permitting Action Comment/Objection is Regarding
New Permit • Change to Existing Permit
Permit Number* (?)
Enter a valid permit number
M1990057
Revision Type and Sequence
Permit Amendment
County*
Colorado County where the proposed operation is located
Lake
Enter one county only
Site Name
Leadville Mill
Perm ittee/Operator Name
CJK Milling
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Are there supporting photos, maps, or documents you wish to upload?
Yes • No
By submitting this form electronically you agree to receive any/all follow up correspondence from the Division of
Reclamation, Mining, and Safety at the email address you have provided.
