Please be as specific
as possible.
Comment/Objection Narrative*
I am concerned about the tremendous amount of water this mill will use. This area goes into drought years
often, such as the one we are now in.CJK claims water consumption of over 38,000 gallons of our precious
water per day!CJK has given NO source from which this water is to come. High water consumption may reduce
water availability in the Leadville area for residential and other uses. The risk of water contamination from the
waste pile could contaminate the ground water, yet the mill plan does NOT address perpetual monitoring and
management of the waste pile. The trucks going back and forth with contaminated materials will kick up dust
and be hard on the road, which residents will have to pay for. This is hardly going to help the tourist industry
that so many residents depend upon. This whole project is a losing situation for Leadville and should not be
allowed to go forward.
The impact on the upper Arkansas River basin and particularly the Leadville area is significant. Impacts include
potential chemical contamination of surface and groundwater. The mill waste pile will be a potential source of
water contamination risks forever, yet the mill plan does not address perpetual monitoring and management of
the waste pile. High water consumption may reduce water availability in the Leadville area for residential and
other uses. These water issues alone are so significant the mill should not be permitted to operate.
Permitting Action Comment/Objection is Regarding
New Permit Change to Existing Permit
