Please be as specific
as possible.
Comment/Objection Narrative*
As concerned citizens and residents of Colorado for more than 40 years,we are in full support of this effort to
reclaim historic mine dumps in the Leadville Mining District. As we have inquired and gained an understanding
of this effort,we have learned the purpose of the mill is the reclamation of historic mine dumps on the east side
of Leadville in the historic mining district. It is further our understanding that CJK Milling has 1,200 acres of
historic mine dumps to reclaim within this district.
As we are sure you are aware, Leadville has a long-standing mining history which has created a variety of
issues and environmental damage the area. The EPA has declared much of the Leadville Mining District, in and
around Leadville,as a Super Fund site providing credence to the importance and priority of pursuing clean-up.
This district has thousands of acres of historic mine dumps which have not been reclaimed. Reclamation of
these dumps will help restore these areas to a more natural landscape of alpine spruce, fir and lodgepole pine,
while dramatically reducing the acid leaching from these dumps into the Arkansas river watershed.Additionally,
operation of the mill will provide approximately twenty high paying local jobs and tax revenue needed to the
local economy. This venture is a clear win-win for the area, environment and economy and therefore has our full
support to move forward bringing positive impact to Colorado and the beauty of our state. Please consider
expeditious approval of this request.
Permitting Action Comment/Objection is Regarding
New Permit • Change to Existing Permit
