Please be as specific
as possible.
Comment/Objection Narrative
As a resident of Jefferson in Park County, I understand firsthand how challenging it can be to balance economic
opportunity, environmental restoration, and quality of life in Colorado's rural mountain communities. I am
supportive of CJK Milling's permit and reclamation project because it directly addresses long-standing
environmental harm while providing responsible local economic benefits. The Leadville Mining District's history
has left thousands of acres of unreclaimed mine dumps that continue to contribute to acid leaching and
watershed degradation, and the EPA's Superfund designation underscores the urgency of thoughtful
remediation.CJK Milling's focus on reclaiming historic mine dumps and restoring these lands to native alpine
landscapes of spruce, fir, and Iodgepole pine represents a meaningful step toward long-term environmental
recovery.
In addition to the clear environmental benefits, the project offers tangible community value through the creation
of approximately twenty well-paying local jobs and increased tax revenue for the region. Projects like this
demonstrate that environmental restoration and economic vitality do not have to be in conflict when they are
planned and regulated responsibly. As someone who cares deeply about Colorado's outdoors, clean water, and
rural communities, I believe CJK Milling's reclamation efforts will reduce impacts to the Arkansas River
watershed while contributing to a healthier landscape and a stronger local economy. For these reasons, I
respectfully support approval of the CJK Milling Reclamation Project permit.
