Cunningham, Director <br />January 8, 2026 <br /> <br />Garfield County Planning Department <br />Planning Director <br />108 8th Street, Suite 201 <br />Glenwood Springs, CO 81601-3355 <br /> <br /> <br />Re: McClane Canyon Mine (Permit No. C-1980-004) <br /> Permit Renewal Application No. 10 (RN-10) <br /> <br />Dear Garfield County Planning Department: <br /> <br />The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, <br />Article 33, Section 118, Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on January 7, 2026, an <br />application to renew an existing permit to conduct coal mining operations at the McClane Canyon <br />Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. All review and comment periods as <br />provided in the Colorado Surface Mining Reclamation Act and the Rules initiate from this date of <br />filing. <br /> <br />ARC McClane Canyon, LLC proposes to continue underground coal mining and/or reclamation <br />operations on land located approximately 19 miles North of Loma, Colorado. The permit area is <br />further described as follows: <br /> <br />Portions of Sections 3, 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 28, and 34, T7S, R102W, 6th PM, all in Garfield <br />County. <br /> <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on the following USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle <br />map(s): Howard Canyon. <br /> <br />ARC McCalne Canyon, LLC has submitted an application for renewal of a valid existing permit to <br />conduct coal mining and reclamation for its McClane Canyon Mine, Permit No. C-1980-004. <br />McClane Canyon Mine is an underground mine on land located approximately 19 miles north of <br />Loma, Colorado along State Highway 139. The current permit will expire on July 6, 2026. McClane <br />Canyon Mining, LLC proposes to continue underground coal mining and/or reclamation operations <br />and the application requests successive renewal of the permit for an additional five years. This <br />renewal application does not propose revisions to the approved mining and reclamation plan, nor is <br />there any proposed surface disturbance outside of the currently approved disturbance area. <br />
