WILDLIFE INFORMATION
Rule 6.4.8 of the Mineral Rules and Regulations requires the Applicant include description of
significant wildlife resources on the affected lands; seasonal use of area; presence and
population of threatened or endangered species; and effects to wildlife during and after the
proposed mining operations.
In general, the mine and affected areas are previously mined lands or support areas for the
current landfilling operations and are subject to heavy equipment and waste transport
vehicle traffic, waste container storage, and disturbance incidental to the ongoing operations
and thus offer limited or no viable habitat for wildlife. The post-reclamation use of the Area 1
mined areas is for disposal of wastes and also will not provide viable habitat for wildlife. Area
2, while revegetated during reclamation, will provide little in the way of habitat due to
proximity to development and lack of adequate cover. Hence, neither the current or post-
mining lands provide significant wildlife resources as described in Rule 6.4.8.
Species identified as potentially present at or near the property include coyote, fox, badger,
skunk, small rodents, cottontail and jackrabbits, dear magpies, crows, ravens, raptors,
songbirds in season, and probably bullsnakes and rattlesnakes (as presented in the
Application for Mine Land Reclamation Permit, UTE Mine, Douglas County, Colorado, 1979).
The previous permit and wildlife statement concluded that there are "no known or
threatened or endangered species" present at the property. Lastly, the previous permit, in
the assessment of mining impact on wildlife stated that the impact from mining is
"insignificant - this is an old mine on a knob in rolling grazing land. The main plans are
grasses interspersed with yucca and an occasional clump of skunkbush and numerous
annual forbs".
Based on current site conditions and land use, and based on the previous wildlife
assessments prepared for the property, it does not appear that the mining operations
described in this Application and incidental to the ongoing waste disposal activities will have
significant impact on current wildlife food or habitat, wildlife migratory routes, or general
impact from human activity.
Weaver Consultants Group,LLC
Q: WASTE CONNECTIONS)SEDALIAEXPANSION 2024DRMS112 PERMITS EXHIBITH-WILDLIFE INFORMATION.DOCX Rev.0,10/202S
H-1
