Peter Foster and Jonah Howe, Wright Water Engineers Page 2 of 14
Re: Gunnison West Gravel Pit SWSP, Amendment No. 1
December 12, 2025
This SWSP was previously approved on December 8, 2025. This approval amends
condition of approval #7 so as to require accounting to be submitted within ten (10)
calendar days of the end of the month for which the accounting is being made during
times of stream administration (as opposed to the previously required five (5) calendar
days).
The Gunnison West gravel pits are located in Sections 10, 11, and 15, Township 49 North,
Range 1 West of the New Mexico P.M., as shown on attached Figure 2. The depletions that
result from the mining operation over the two-year period include evaporation from exposed
groundwater, product moisture loss and washing, dewatering, and dust suppression. The
total amount of groundwater proposed to be exposed during the term of this SWSP is 40.1
acres. Dry-up credits from lands historically irrigated by the Seventy-Five Ditch will be used
to offset the associated water depletions.
This gravel pit operates under permit no. 77574-F, which limits the use of groundwater to
evaporative loss, water lost with mined product, dust control, and dewatering, with average
annual amount of groundwater to be appropriated limited to 318.03 acre-feet/year based on
an exposed groundwater area of 124 acres (including 12 acres exposed prior to January 1,
1981), or the amounts covered under a Water Court-approved augmentation plan or SWSP
approved by the State Engineer, whichever is less.
Depletions
Annual depletions are as follows:
1. 17.4 acre-feet/year of evaporative depletions,
2. 1.3 acre-feet/year for dust suppression, and
3. 2.9 acre-feet/year from aggregate production and washing.
Therefore, total depletions are anticipated at 21.7 acre-feet/year, as shown on attached
Table 2.
