• SPILL PREVENTION AND CONTROL PLAN <br /> JD-8 Mine Permit Amendment <br /> M-1984-014 <br /> Section 1 History of Spills <br /> There have been no spills at this facility. <br /> Section 2 Emergency Response Procedures <br /> A Spill Definition <br /> For the purpose of this procedure a spill is defined as: <br /> The unintentional release of a material in use, process, or storage at the JD-8 Mine <br /> that may result in a significant adverse impact on the environment. <br /> The materials used,processed or stored at the mine site that may have an adverse <br /> impact to the environment have been identified and listed in Section E. —List of <br /> Materials. This list should be used as a guide in evaluating any spills or potential <br /> spills at the mine. <br /> • B. Internal Notification <br /> If it is believed by an employee that a spill has occurred, or is about to occur, the <br /> Mine Foreman should be notified. The mine foreman should be provided with the <br /> following information: <br /> 1. The location and nature of the incident <br /> 2. The type of material <br /> 3. The quantity of material released <br /> The mine foreman will be responsible for notifying the Safety Director and the <br /> Environmental Coordinator of the situation. The Environmental Coordinator will <br /> determine whether any spill includes hazardous material in reportable quantities. <br /> If it is determined that the incident is a spill the mine foreman will gather some <br /> assistance,as necessary, to help with the containment phase. <br /> C. Containment <br /> Efforts will be taken to terminate any ongoing release of material, and contain the <br /> spilled material through berming and/or absorption. <br /> D.
