Exhibit I <br /> Soils Information <br /> JD-8 Mine Permit Amendment <br /> M-1984-014 <br /> The previously permitted area covers two very different soils environments. The lower • <br /> mine area on the Opera Box and Doagy No 2 claims on the northern slope of Monogram <br /> Mesa, and the proposed upper mine waste area on top of Monogram Mesa. <br /> As part of this Soils Exhibit the pertinent Soil Interpretation sheets, and Map Unit <br /> Descriptions derived from the Web Soil Survey for the soil types in the affected areas are <br /> attached. <br /> The lower mine area consists entirely of map unit symbol 23-Bodot, dry-Ustic <br /> Torriorthents complex with a typical profile being as follows: <br /> 0-3 inches: Cobbly clay loam <br /> 3-30 inches: Cobbly silty clay <br /> 30-34 inches: Weathered bedrock <br /> The rating class for this soil type is poor,as shown on the attached Soil Interpretation <br /> Sheet. Previous experience reclaiming mine dumps in this area indicates that spreading <br /> at least a minimal amount of these soils over the re-contoured mine waste provides a <br /> reasonable environment to sustain re-vegetation efforts. <br /> 410 <br /> The proposed upper mine waste area consists of two different soil types. The majorityof <br /> P Po PP YP <br /> the soil in this area consists of map unit symbol 75-Pinon-Bowdish-Progresso barns with <br /> a typical profile being as follows: <br /> 0-5 inches: Loam <br /> 5-16 inches: Gravelly Loam <br /> 16-20 inches: Unweathered bedrock <br /> The rating class for this soil type is poor,as shown on the attached Soil Interpretation <br /> Sheet. Previous experience reclaiming mine dumps in this area indicates that spreading <br /> at least a minimal amount of these soils over the re-contoured mine waste provides a <br /> reasonable environment to sustain re-vegetation efforts. <br /> The other soil type in this upper mine waste area consists of map unit symbol 60- <br /> Monogram Loam with a typical profile being as follows: <br /> 0-3 inches: Loam <br /> 3-14 inches: Loam <br /> 14-28 inches: Loam <br /> 28-60 inches: Sandy clay loam <br /> The rating class for this soil type is fair, as shown on the attached Soil Interpretation <br /> Sheet.
