The region also features significant Tertiary intrusive bodies, including <br />porphyry stocks and dikes that were emplaced during periods of intense igneous activity. <br />The area is historically significant for its mineral deposits, making it one of North America's richest <br />mining districts. The geological processes created extensive lead-zinc-silver replacement deposits <br />throughout the region, along with valuable gold-bearing veins. Molybdenum mineralization also <br />occurs in significant quantities, contributing to the area's mineral wealth. <br />The modern landscape has been shaped by multiple geological processes over millions of years. <br />Quaternary glaciation carved distinctive U-shaped valleys across the terrain, while fluvial <br />processes from the Arkansas River system continued to modify the topography. The entire region <br />was significantly affected by tectonic uplift during the Laramide Orogeny, which helped create the <br />dramatic topography visible today. <br />2. General Mining Plan – Mining Environments <br />Excavation of prelaw waste will take place across the Mosquito Gulch area. This area, generally, <br />consists of four identified Mining Environments. Prior to any mining activity, the mining environment of a <br />waste pile will be identified based on the descriptions below, to guide mining and successful <br />reclamation. <br />No structures will be built as part of mining. All work will be accomplished by mobile equipment such as <br />dozers, front-end loaders, track hoes, and haul trucks. <br /> <br />Heavily and moderately vegetated ground with either forest or shrubs on talus, landslides, glacial till, <br />alluvium, or other similar non-bedrock geology. Topsoil is found on areas of this environment, with the <br />exception of talus fields that have trees growing directly out of them. This environment includes <br />solifluction deposits that are well-vegetated. <br /> <br />Areas of non-bedrock geology consisting of alluvium, talus, glacial till, landslides, or similar deposits <br />that lack consistent vegetation. Topsoil is not typically found in these areas. <br /> <br />Heavily and moderately vegetated ground that consists of topsoil directly atop hard bedrock. Loose <br />non-soil rock is not expected in this environment. Topsoil may be thin but is present in some quantity. <br /> <br />Little to no vegetation growing on areas of exposed bedrock. No topsoil expected in this environment. <br /> <br />For all of the mining environment a minimum mining plan will be followed. It is detailed below.
