Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mine
Valley Leach Facility Expansions
Detailed Design for Permitting
NewFields Project No. 475.0106.064
September 2025

Page 3
1.2. Scope of Work
NewFields was retained by CC&V to provide engineering services for the VLF Expansions. This
design report includes the following:
 Design and layout for the Expansions are to be constructed in four stages;
 Updated Water Balance Model, to be completed with the support of Piteau Associates;
and,
 Updated Construction Technical Specifications for the VLF Expansions.
2. SITE CHARACTERIZATION
2.1. Location and Topography
CC&V is located in Teller County, Colorado, in between the towns of Cripple Creek and Victor.
VLF1 is located in Arequa Gulch and to the south of VLF2. VLF2 is located in the Maize Anaconda,
and Swede Gulch areas, between Raven and Gold Hill. The VLF1 and VLF2 Expansions will extend
the two facilities to the northeast and southeast, respectively, visually forming one combined VLF
that buttresses up against Joe Dandy Hill to the East. Drawing A001 shows the proposed limits of
the Expansion.
2.2. Climate
In October 2018, CC&V commissioned Knight Piésold (KP) to evaluate the current stormwater
management plans for the site. As part of their evaluations, KP provided recommendations to
update the climate data, including increasing the 100-year/24-hour storm event from 3.5 to 4.1
inches. These recommendations have been utilized in the water balance and sizing of the high-
volume collection piping.
2.3. Underground Workings
If encountered, historical underground mine workings will be mitigated as needed to provide a
robust and safe foundation for the expansion. Based on the remediation plans completed during
the construction of the current VLF1 Phase 5 and VLF2, the following guidelines will be used:
 Shafts/Stope Remediation
o For open excavations where the depth of bedrock is less than 7 feet below the
final soil liner fill (SLF) subgrade surface: Backfill open shafts with coarse shaft
backfill to approximately 10 feet below the SLF subgrade and then place a
concrete plug, cemented rock fill, and structural fill to achieve SLF subgrade
surface.
