Subtracting an average of 2.5 feet of overburden and soil over an area of
7.78 acres results in a volume of 31,000 cubic yards. Additional subtractions for portions of the ex-
isting pond and the existing depression area are approximately 20,000 cubic yards. Therefore, the
total gravel volume to be mined is 190,000 cubic yards. This is equivalent to 285,000 tons. These
calculations are approximate since the exact extent of the gravel deposit in the field is unknown.
Note:Since the COE has required an individual wetland permit in order to mine through the exist-
ing pond, the mining quantities described above are slightly higher than expected since the pond is
being eliminated from the mining area for the existing pond. The actual extent of mining is shown on
the revised Map E-1. If a later COE individual permit is obtained, mining will proceed exactly as
shown in this plan. The maximum annual mined tonnage rate for the pit is 70,000 tons. The mining
of the area will leave 2.0H:1.0V side slopes on all final outside slopes down to the mining depth. In
fact, during the mining process, the dozer will mine the deposit at a 2H:1 V slope, therefore, the
worst case bond calculations for reclamation will simply involve backfilling to 3H:1V,replacing
topsoil,then seeding.
No mining will be conducted at night. Mining will only be allowed from 6 am to 7 pm,Monday
through Saturday. No processing of any kind will occur on the North Fork Pit site. All material
will be mined with a front-end loader and trucks will take the raw material over a land bridge when
the water flow in the river is low, so trucks can stay on land to transport material to the processing
area of the River Bottom Pit. The majority of the material will be mined, crushed and sold in the
spring, summer and fall months. There will be no fence around the operation, since it is well inside
private property and there are no facilities on site. No problems are expected with vandalism.
Access to the site is from 4005 Lane, which is a County Road. The mine sign will be posted at the
end of this road, adjacent to the Pit entrance.
It is extremely unlikely that any toxic or acid-producing materials will be encountered during the
mining operation since the total depth of excavation(20') is shallow and tests down to this depth
show that the material is alluvial in nature. However, in the event that such materials are encoun-
tered, they will be covered with topsoil from the stockpiles to the same depths outlined in the recla-
mation plan and no more mining will occur in this area.
Farnsworth commits to clearly marking the permit boundary at all corners.
16
North Fork Pit March 04
