USDA United States Forest South Park Ranger District PO Box 219
Department of Service 320 US Highway 285
_ Agriculture Fairplay,CO 80440
719-836-2031
Fax: 719-836-3875
File Code: 2810
Date: June 12, 2023
Mr. Jeff Schimel
Operator/Claimant
2521 Ryan Place Drive
Fort Worth, TX 76110
Dear Mr. Schimel,
This letter is regarding your JJ Collecting Project#2 (Redemption) Mine Plan of Operations
(MPO) (#2810-021210-MPO-2023-001) for proposed activities on the South Park Ranger
District of the Pike— San Isabel National Forests & Cimarron and Comanche National
Grasslands (PSICC). The Redemption MPO was originally received on November 7, 2022, and
has since undergone a completeness review. I appreciate your updated submission of a revised
MPO on May 30, 2023, which addressed the Forest Service's concerns and included the
requested information.
It is my determination that the revised Redemption MPO received on May 30, 2023, covers the
requirements of the regulations (36 CFR 228.4(c)) and will be added to the Forest's program of
work. An interdisciplinary(ID)team will be assigned to analyze and disclose the environmental
impacts from the proposed activity, as required under the National Environmental Policy Act
(NEPA). This analysis will include the consideration of comments solicited from the public and
from other cooperating agencies. Following completion of the NEPA analysis, you will either
appeal and/or accept any mitigations the Forest deems necessary to minimize adverse impacts, in
addition to posting an acceptable reclamation bond in accordance with 36 CFR 228.13.
As a reminder, you are responsible for obtaining any other regulatory agency permits necessary
for the proposed activity. If your operations will require 401 certifications, you must provid
e
this to the Forest prior to MPO approval.
Please keep a copy of this letter for your records.
If you have any questions and/or need clarification regarding the above information, please
contact Geologist Amy Titterington at the South Park Ranger District office by phone at 719-
838-0699 and/or by email at an y j.titterington(a'uusda.gov.
Sincerely,
//,‘
JOSHUA VOORHIS
District Ranger
Caring for the Land and Serving People Printed on Recycled Paper
