6.4.7 Exhibit G <br /> Water Information <br /> Mining is expected to have no impact on the prevailing hydrologic balance. Groundwater has been <br /> exposed for the last 60 years onsite. The site will not discharge stormwater or process water <br /> drainage as the mining operation has created a depression. <br /> Runoff occurs as overland flow to natural drainage ravines in the vicinity. Stormwater best <br /> management practices such as waddles, straw bales, and perimeter berms will be placed to <br /> effectively manage stormwater. Historic drainage will be maintained during mining. <br /> Consumptive use of water may occur as dust suppression on the haul road and affected areas. <br /> The operator will use water from the onsite ponds. Water usage on site is estimated at less than <br /> 10,000 gallons per day. <br /> A Substitute Water Supply is not required, as there has been water present onsite since at least 1966, <br /> as mentioned in the 1996 permit application: <br /> MINING PLAN <br /> This amendment amounts to an expansion of an existing sand <br /> pit operation currently permitted under a 110 permit , File <br /> No. M-83-175. The pit was opened in 1984, and mining pro- <br /> ceeded westerly to the present time creating 3 separate <br /> ponds. The Alamosa East USGS quad dated 1966 indicates a <br /> small pond of slightly less than 1 acre on the east end near <br /> the road. Although this is a pre-law activity, the operator <br /> proposes to include it in their reclamation plan . <br /> A Groundwater Monitoring Plan is attached for review and is requested to be considered for this <br /> site. The plan calls for two samples in the current ponds for quality monitoring and will be tested <br /> once a quarter for 5 quarters, at which time it is anticipated that all exposed water will be covered, <br /> and the site will be fully reclaimed. As the site has had open groundwater for decades, there is no <br /> previous data on groundwater depth onsite, and the site is currently under reclamation with the <br /> groundwater actively being covered the operator does not believe that groundwater quantity testing <br /> is not needed. <br />
