"outside" Il
to make it known, that there would be no entities allowed to dump there. All materials
dumped, placed and spread on the pit floor will be from MLI operations, typically domestic removal
from projects.
Therefore, the pit plans to accept import of waste concrete and asphalt materials, construction
materials, soil and bio-degradable materials, and wood and plant wastes, that are inert and has no toxic
or acid forming material above acceptable limits, none of which would violate the material waste
disposal laws of the State of Colorado, from other sites within the MLI organization, in order that they
may be recycled through the plants on site or used as backfill to return the surface topography to
original elevation. All fill material will be spread out on the pit floor or stockpiled and will be blended
into the final landscape.
Following the backfilling of the mined peat pit with inert materials, the soil surface will be prepared
for native species seeding as follows:
1) Two feet of sand will be applied to the surface of the concrete, asphalt and other materials, filled
pits.
2) Stockpiled peat will be applied across the land surface, at an application rate of 40 cubic yards
per acre.
3) Disturbed peat will be ripped or disked into the freshly laid sand below, perpendicular to the
prevailing wind direction. Ripping the land surface will create 12 inch troughs and crests that
will decrease the potential for loss depostion and wind disruption of recently seeded native
species.Additionally, mulching allows for increased moisture retention in the soil, further
promoting the germination of native seed species in the present arid environment.
4) Native seeds will be broadcast seeded or drilled into the peat and sand topsoil. Seeding of native
species will take place in the next appropriate planting season. As per the original 1994 permit
specifications, seeding will occur between November 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026, and so on in
subsequent years.
CURRENT MINING:
MLI is currently mining in Area 1 for SAND, removing approximately 1250 tons (or 940 cubic
yards)per year.A map is enclosed/attached. Current operations are indicated in blue, with Area 1 in
red. Operations continue to move west/northwest.
Peat, in the past, apparently, was "scraped" off of the surface and stockpiled, as it naturally
pushes up to the surface. This was apparently done mostly in Areas 4, 5 and 6. MLI intends to only take
peat from areas in current mining operations, or from near future areas.
Anticipated Mining plans are as follows:
1) Continue mining and removing sand from Area 1,progressing west/northwest towards Area 9.
2) Scraping peat from Area 9 when needed in preparation for sand mining. MLI predicts mining
operations in Area 9 for sand by 2028. Back fill to follow as possible, starting from the east and
following mining operations westward.
3) Begin importing material for back fill and reclamation purposes to the eastern side of Area 1,
