Sedgwick County Road and Bridge Soil Borrow Area to Gravel Pit Conversion Page 17
110(c) Operation Reclamation Permit July 3, 2025
cover soil will be used as the cost of earthworks for reclamation. The bid costs are shown in
Appendix E.
Cost of Earthworks for topsoil = $5.50/CY
For the cost estimate, it will be assumed that a 3.1-acre area will need to be reclaimed, this is
slightly larger than the disturbed area.
Area to be reclaimed= 3.1 Acres
Total volume of soil to be placed=2,018 CY(CAD Calculations from May 2025 Survey Data)
Total Cost of earthworks for topsoil= $I I,099
4.6.2 Cost of Earthworks for Backfill
Also, as part of the construction bid there were cost estimates for placement of soils to be
compacted. This involved using soils that were already on site and compacting them to 95% of
the standard proctor density. This is very similar to the proposed activities for reclaiming the
gravel pit so costs should be similar.
Cost of earthworks for backfill = $6.73/CY
The volume of the backfill is 3,013 CY. (Regrade Design)
Cost of backfill earthworks= $20,278
Cost of Seed Mix
Buffalo Brand seed mix,a local seed grower, provided a quote for the cost of seed mix for a similar
reclamation project in 2023. Adjusted for inflation, it is $18.05/lb(Appendix F). Using 20 lbs per
acre seeding rate suggested by the NRCS and assuming 3.1 acres of land to be reclaimed and using
the total cost of the seed mix will be $1,119.
