Sedgwick County Road and Bridge Soil Borrow Area to Gravel Pit Conversion Page 3
110(c) Operation Reclamation Permit July 3, 2025
2.0 EXHIBIT B—Site Description
2.1 Vegetation
During site visits carried out prior to submittal of the original construction borrow area permit, the
vegetative cover was estimated to be approximately 80% which is dominated by grasses. There
are sparse shrubs as well. No other vegetation is present at the site. The ecological system 7310
(see below) is capable of existing in the soil type in the affected area since it grows in loamy soils
and the upper profile(0-6 inches) in the affected area are loamy.
Topsoil was removed during prior soil borrow operations and saved in stockpiles for reclamation.
Stockpiles were not compacted and grass cover has been established over the stockpiles, it is
assumed the soil will be sufficient to support the same ecology. To ensure this the operator may
wish to test stockpiles of topsoil for revegetation suitability. Fertilizer may be added during
hydromulching.
The USGS national vegetation classification survey information for the site are as follows:
The vegetation classification for the site are Division 2.B.2.Nb Central North American Grassland
and Shrubland. The group is G144 Great Plains Shortgrass Prairie.
Division 2.B.2.Nb Central North American Grassland & Shrubland
This division is found in the central plains of North America and is dominated by grassland
vegetation commonly referred to as shortgrass, mixed grass, and tallgrass prairie, interspersed with
evergreen and deciduous shrublands. The vegetation occurs on either glaciated or non-glaciated
substrates, rolling to rugged topography, and fine textured to coarse-textured soils, and natural
disturbances include grazing and fire.
Group G144 Great Plains Shortgrass Prairie
This semi-arid shortgrass grassland group occurs in the western half of the Western Great Plains
and is usually composed of Bouteloua gracilis(mature height 6"-12") as the dominant or
codominant species with associated graminoids Aristida purpurea (9.5. "-35.5"), Bouteloua
curtipendula(15"-30'), Bouteloua hirsute(10"-20'), Buchloe dactyloides(4"-6'), Hesperostipa
comata(1'-4), Hesperostipa neomexicana, Pascopyrum smithii(1'-3',), Pleuraphis jamesii(11-
