Cripple Creek&Victor Gold Mine
Valley Leach Facility Expansions ■
Detailed Design for Permitting
NewFields Project No.475.0106.064.
March 2024
grading plan can be referenced on Drawing A008 and individual grading plans are shown on
Drawings A012, A013, A014, A015, and A016. Prior to the construction of any stage, Issued for
Construction (IFC) Drawings will be developed, and will consider updated in field conditions, mine
production, contractor availability etc. It is anticipated that any changes to the design and staging
of the VLF Expansion will be minor and will not require additional permitting.
4.3. Valley Leach Facility Foundation
The proposed grading plan was developed based on the following data:
2021 topographic survey information, as the 2022 and 2023 flyover data are the same in
the expansion area, but the 2021 flyover data is more detailed with existing ground
features such as edge of road, location of power poles, outline of building, etc.,
The available as-built data in AutoCAD for the VLF1 and VLF2, and
The proposed future Elkton Pit.
The grading plan has been designed to limit steep slopes within the facility footprint. Generally,
areas within the VLF footprint have been designed to have slopes shallower than 2.5(H):1(V) and
1111 graded to drain towards the existing VLF2 Phase 1/2 PSSA for the VLF2 Phase 4 Expansion, or the
proposed PSSA for the VLF1 Phase 6 Expansion. However, due to site constraints, some areas
within the VLF footprint have been designed at a steeper slope, with a maximum slope of
2(H):1(V). These areas have been limited to locations within internal to the VLF where steeper
slopes will not affect facility stability.
The final site grading contours may vary from those shown on the grading plan drawing to suit
field conditions encountered during construction. Variations from the designed grading plan will
be evaluated to assess impacts to the VLF performance and stability. Typical cross sections for
the VLF pad grading are shown on Drawings A018 and A019.
Cut material generated during the slope regrading will be used as structural fill so long as it meets
the requirements in the Technical Specifications in Appendix D.
4.3.1. VLF2 Phase 4 Stage A
The proposed footprint of the VLF2 Phase 4 Stage A Expansion is located under the existing Mill
Platform, which is a lined area housing several buildings and miscellaneous infrastructure. Prior
to construction, the Mill Building, along with any retaining walls and infrastructure will be
removed.Any void and existing pipes in the area will be removed or grouted. The current grading
plan places a minimum depth of structural fill over this area, so that the existing geomembrane
• will remain intact and buried under the proposed primary liner. This expansion will be graded to
Page 10
