VALLEY LEACH FACILITY DESIGN
4.1. General
The VLF1 and VLF2 Expansions' designs are consistent with the previously approved VLF designs
that have been constructed, with some minor modifications that allow for the utilization of
existing infrastructure. Characteristics of the proposed expansion are summarized below:
- The expansion will push the VLF2 footprint south and east until it is adjacent to VLF1 Phase
4, adding 4.1 million square feet of lined area. The VLF1 footprint will expand to the north
and east, adding 4.4 million square feet of lined area. The VLF1 and VLF2 Expansions will
add a total of 189 million tons of ore capacity to the existing facilities.
With the exception of Joe Dandy Hill, the VLF1 and VLF2 Expansions' footprint
predominantly sits within previously disturbed land; i.e., the footprint already has been
cleared and grubbed of unsuitable materials, topsoil has been removed and stockpiled,
and the underground workings have been removed or already remediated.
The VLF2 Expansion is graded to drain towards the existing VLF2. Solution intercepted by the
High-Volume Collection Pipes will feed directly into ADR2. During periods of time of plant
maintenance or a power outage, the solution coming from VLF2 Phase 4 will be directed into the
VLF2 Phase 1/2's PSSA by way of an infiltration gallery as shown on Drawings A028 and A029.
The VLF1 Phase 6 Expansion includes a new PSSA in the facility. This expansion proposes
the PSSA be located within the existing crusher area and has an embankment located on
the eastern edge of the VLF1 Phase 6 expansion.
Page 8
