Introduction
MineWater LLC has been working diligently to clean up and restore large swaths of Mosquito Gulch of
prelaw mine waste. The initial efforts of this are occurring at the London Mine, a 110D permit west of
Alma, CO, processing material to identify and separate metal bearing materials from inert rock from
pre-law mine dumps near the historic London Mine portals. The London Mine Clean Up is a
continuation of these efforts, focused on expanding the waste pile clean up to all of Mosquito Gulch that
is controlled by MineWater LLC and its associates. A cursory review of the Mosquito Gulch area shows
that there are a large number of pre-law waste piles of unknown quantities from prospecting and mining
in this region beginning over a hundred years ago. Since these waste piles can be a source of
potentially acid-forming material from pre-law disposal, they have been left alone. Now, with
MineWater's processing operations at the London Mine 110D, these waste piles can be excavated,
processed, and reclaimed. This work will remove potential pollutant sources from the natural drainages
and slopes of Mosquito Gulch, enhancing the area for its modern uses of recreation and wildlife habitat.
The London Mine Clean Up will ensure the responsible cleanup of the pre-law waste piles in Mosquito
Gulch by providing a flexible yet clear set of plans for mining and reclamation regardless of the size or
location of the waste piles being cleaned up. Instead of a fixed mining area that may require numerous
revisions as piles are identified for cleanup, this permit overlays a roving maximum of mining
disturbance that can be divided between multiple locations as needed to facilitate reclamation. The
London Mine Clean Up will disturb no more than 20 acres at a time. It will also maintain no more than
10,000 CY of material actively being worked. Finally, all potentially acid-forming material will be shipped
immediately to the London Mine 110D operation for processing. The London Mine Clean Up will
complete with reclamation of each waste pile disturbed to a permanent condition that is stable and
environmentally improved.
The London Mine Clean Up is a 1146.9 acre 112 hard rock operation located roughly eight miles west
of Alma, CO at an elevation of 11,000 to 13,000 feet. The majority of the affected area will not see any
activity. Including the totality of MineWater controlled land allows for the cleanup of any pre-law waste
pile identified in the future without necessitating permit expansion.
The London Mine 110D and the London Borrow Pit are both contained within the affected area of the
London Mine Clean Up. Both operations are fundamentally different from the clean up efforts and their
permits will not be altered by this permit.
London Mountain Clean Up
April 2025 i-1 Lewicki&Associates
