Ref. Page No. M2009-006 00054
6.4.4 EXHIBIT D-Mining Plan
Proposed Mining and Historical Mining Operations - Meadow Hollow Quarry. The
Applicant proposes to expand its existing 110c permit under permit M-2009-006 with the
approval of this Application for Construction Material Regular (112) Operation by
increasing the permitted acreage to approximately 44 acres. This expansion, while not
entirely mined, would include all Affected Land within the deed for the parcel located at
901 S. County Road 31, Berthoud, CO.
Meadow Hollow Quarry is an existing quarry which was opened in the 1950's. It contains
an area of "pre-law quarry" in addition to the 110c mining operation. This is a long-
established quarry and the mined stone color is used to match buildings at Colorado
University in Boulder and other buildings in the Denver area. This stone is light in color
with pink running through it and golden striping or spots. This stone will remain the
primary product produced from the site.
Mining Methods. [ref. 6.4.4, items (a),(b) and (i).J This is a surface quarry operation
extracting sandstone for use in construction, as decorative stone, dimension stone, and
aggregate as discussed above. Conventional open pit quarrying methods will be used
in this operation. The stone is quarried by front end loaders, excavators, and hand tools.
Extracted stone and materials are processed on site using machinery for transport,
cutting, crushing and screening, and also with hand tools.
Drilling and blastingwill be conducted as needed to fracture sandstone not manageable
sizes. The sandstone layer may be drilled and blasted using conventional open-pit
drilling and blasting methods permitted at the site. The shot rock will then be loaded
and hauled to the crushing, screening, and stockpiling area using loaders, excavators
and haul trucks.
DRMS has previously approved a blasting plan with respect to the 110c mine. It is not
anticipated that the Appticantwill require any blasting or drillingoutside of the 110c area
in the near term. Any blasting conducted at the Affected Land will comply with the
current DRMS approved blasting plan and permit, and MSHA and DRMS regulations. As
quarrying and stone extract operations are commenced outside of the currently
permitted 110c area on the Affected Land, if blasting is required outside of this area the
Applicant will submit a revised blasting plan for approval of DRMS. Blasting at the
Affected Land will be conducted consistent with the blasting plan and, as such, off-site
areas will not be affected by blasting activities.
The mining operations will employ the use of various equipment suitable to purpose,
including: Excavators; Loaders; Haul Trucks; Rock Drills; Crushers; Screens, and water
