Please be as specific
as possible.
Comment/Objection Narrative*
Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the permit application for the Cross Gold Mine. I share and
support the concerns and requests expressed in comments previously submitted by Colorado Parks and
Wildlife, the Boulder Watershed Collective, Boulder County Parks and Open Space, Boulder County Audubon
Society,and Boulder County Nature Association.
I am particularly concerned about impacts to wildlife and the sensitive mountain ecosystems that occur at and
surrounding the mine site.A number of operational aspects have the potential to impact aquatic and terrestrial
wildlife and habitats in various ways, including water quality and quantity changes;exposure to toxic chemicals,
for example in settling ponds, runoff, waste rock and soils; use and storage of explosives;entrapment in open
pits or trenches; increased wildfire risk; increased traffic along area roads;increased lighting and noise,
especially at night;and replacement of native plants with invasive species.
I request that DRMS require the applicant to provide all relevant information to adequately address
environmental concerns, prior to making a determination about the application. I further request that DRMS
ensure that GIR has adequate financial and staffing capacity to protect water quantity and quality,to address
the above concerns and those articulated by the commenters I mentioned above, and to address problems
occurring from past,current,or expanded operations.
Thank you.
