Please be as specific
as possible.
Comment/Objection Narrative*
I grew up in Nederland from the age of three until graduating high school, and I lived there for several more
years in my twenties. My parents still live there to this day. Nederland's essence and glory lie in its natural
beauty and proximity to and connection with nature. I frequently return to hike and run the trails through the
pristine forests surrounding the town and feel deeply connected to the natural environment there, which
fundamentally shaped who I am.As such, I am fiercely protective of Nederland's natural splendor and the
sanctity and health of every aspect of the environment. For this reason, I am commenting to share why the
Cross Gold Mine expansion would be so detrimental to our community.
Allowing the Cross Gold Mine to expand when its existing, far smaller operation has already resulted in multiple
surface and groundwater violations would be irresponsible to the environment.Air quality, water quality, and the
health of the ecosystem would be vulnerable to the inevitable further environmental violations a far larger
operation would entail. Not only that, increased mining activities could adversely impact the health of Nederland
residents who could be at risk of exposure to any resulting contamination.Additionally, mining activities involve
explosives that could put an already high-risk area at even higher risk for fires. As it stands, homeowners are
being denied home insurance given the fire danger around Nederland. We should not allow any activities that
could put residents'homes, lives, and environment even further at risk.
Permitting Action Comment/Objection is Regarding
• New Permit Change to Existing Permit
