Please be as specific
as possible.
Comment/Objection Narrative*
I object to the expansion of this mining permit.
1.The repeated surface and ground water violations suggest that the water treatment system may not be
adequate for active mining conditions AND/OR that the Permittee is insufficiently careful or motivated to protect
our water resources. Given the current/future regulatory climate, I am concerned that there is not sufficient
protection for Coon Track Creek, and ultimately, our drinking water in Boulder County. The groundwater leaving
this site will need to be monitored for over 100 years following the closing of the mine.
2.This mine is permitted for 50 years and may generate 40,000 tons of waste rock a year.
3. Right now, this valley is a functioning habitat for wildlife. The CPW's letter lists impacts on both local and
migrating wildlife for this site-wildlife becoming entrapped in open trenches, collisions, exhaustion, increased
depredation, and direct mortality. How will wildlife be protected from ponds filled with mining chemicals and
heavy metals?
4.We do not have a shortage of gold, silver, lead or zinc. This mine is simply intended to generate profit for a
few and long-lasting devastation for everyone else.
5. In a state where we have already seen so much habitat loss, there is no amount of money that will bring this
valley back. Will the wildlife driven away over those 50 years of mining have a place to go?Between 1982 and
2017,Colorado lost more than 42 football fields of open space EACH day.
6. Please deny the new permit#M1977410, Grand Island Resources, LLC.
I
