RECEIVED
APR 012025
Colorado Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety
March 26, 2025
Division of Reclamation and Mining Safety(DRMS)
1313 Sherman Street
Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Dear DRMS:
The East Boulder Climate Change Group is deeply concerned with water issues and their
relation to climate change. This concern leads us to focus on water conservation and
water safety.
We strongly oppose the Cross Gold Mine Application which would expand the area for
permitted mining more than 20 times. We think such an operation would be detrimental to
water safety and public health in many parts of Boulder County and even beyond. The
treatment systems proposed in the application are completely inadequate.
In addition to gold and silver mining there would also be underground mining for lead and
zinc, which are seriously hazardous activities. Existing tunnels would be expanded to allow
extraction of 70,000 tons of ore per year for a period of 50 years. As much as 40,000 tons of
waste rock would be generated each year. A dangerous milt would be constructed on site
and perilous extraction chemicals would be used.
All this is completely unacceptable and flies in the face of essential efforts to preserve our
global environment. Rational analysis indicates that the Cross Gold Mine Application must
be promptly and completely rejected.
Sincerely,
East Boulder Climate Change Group
350 Ponca Place
Boulder, CO 80303
