Comment/Objection Narrative*
I have MANY concerns about the Cross Mine's request to restart their operations or up to 50 years and request
for an expansion to 200 acres. As a resident of Nederland who was prevoiusly exposed to the lead and arsenic
in my drinking and bathing water I am opposed to this request.
I am also very opposed to any kind of expansion to 200 acres.
The location of the mine site is an area that has robust wildlife.Construction and mine operations pose a threat
to disruption of the wildlife via light, noise and traffic. The road to the mine is a steep, dirt road at high altitude.
Additional concerns:
1. Fire danger and emergency response.
2. Protection of the property and environment from wildfire, flood or blackout.
3.The application fails to demonstrate how the mine will control water pollution during the mining operation and
in the long-term, post-mining.Given the history of water pollution problems,a more detailed analysis of how the
mine is going to ensure future water quality protection is required under state law.
4.The application does not demonstrate that the current treatment and monitoring systems in place or as
proposed will adequately protect ground and surface water during active mining.
5.The application fails to provide sufficient detail as to the plans for the ore material to be mined, including
where the ore from the mine will be processed, how it will be transported, and how it will be stored on site.
There is not sufficient transportation or storage plan in this application.
6.The application lacks a sufficient description of the area surface hydrology to enable the public to understand
all of the drainages and bodies of water that might be affected by the mining operation.
7.The application references a milling operation on site, but fails to provide sufficient information for review of
the impacts or reclamation requirements of a milling operation on site.
Permitting Action Comment/Objection is Regarding
New Permit • Change to Existing Permit
Permit Number* (?)
Enter a valid permit number
M1977410
Revision Type and Sequence
Mine reopen and expansion
County*
Colorado County where the proposed operation is located
Boulder
Enter one county only
Site Name
Cross Gold Mine
Perm ittee/Operator Name
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Are there supporting photos, maps, or documents you wish to upload?
Yes • No
By submitting this form electronically you agree to receive any/all follow up correspondence from the Division of
Reclamation, Mining, and Safety at the email address you have provided.
