Comment/Objection Narrative*
Today I am writing in STRONG OPPOSITION of the expansion of the mine near Caribou Hill. The mine has not
made any progress in building trust with local residents after frequently contaminating our water source. I
recognize this project may help this, however I am not confident any environmental concerns will be adequately
reviewed by the owners and managers of the mine(as we have seen historically).Caribou Hill is a special place
for many residents of the surrounding area. There are so many hidden trails and beautiful spots in the area and
it would be a shame to expand the mine in this beautiful spot. The current federal administration has continually
pulled public land access around the country and this feels like the same thing is happening to our beloved
Caribou Hill(in this case the mine is the acting like the federal government)and taking away public land, that
belongs to the people and NOT THE MINE. It is heartbreaking to think that the mine would carelessly expand
their operation and remove access to a secluded area where locals go to escape the crowds of other popular
trailheads. As an educator at the alternative high school in Nederland,we often bring students to Caribou Hill
due to it's easy access from town.Caribou Hill is more than just a place on the map,it's where our students
learn first hand about their backyard. The area around Caribou Hill is the home to many subsistence hunters
who are looking to fill their freezers for the winter. As someone who visits Caribou Hill almost weekly, it would
be devastating for this hidden gem to be ruined with the expansion of the mine. Also, who mines for gold
anymore??It's not like the mine will greatly expand the availability of necessary minerals that will improve the
wellbeing of those in the state. Gold is not essential and should not be expanded. In conclusion, I strongly
OPPOSE the expansion of the Caribou Mine and would truly be heartbroken if this expansion was approved. I
speak confidently in saying this is the view point of many locals who would be directly impacted by this project.
Please listen to the people and not the mine. Please dismiss this expansion.
Permitting Action Comment/Objection is Regarding
New Permit Change to Existing Permit
Permit Number* (?)
Enter a valid permit number
M1980244
Revision Type and Sequence
AM 14
County
Colorado County where the proposed operation is located
Boulder
Enter one county only
Site Name
Permittee/Operator Name
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Are there supporting photos, maps, or documents you wish to upload?
• Yes No
Upload Supporting Documents
Maximum of 5 files can be uploaded and each file size must be 10mb and under.
