Comment/Objection Narrative*
I am writing to oppose Grand Island DMO application providing the following concerns-in my opinion:
X-Given that the current operator is not properly certified,as far as I could discover in public records(see
attached July 5 and Nov 29,2025 correspondences from CDPHE)and the copper exceedances in at least one
of the wells, and that the treatment system was designed for inactive mining;this application does not
demonstrate that the current treatment and monitoring systems in place/proposed will adequately protect
ground and surface water during active mining.
X-The application does not mention the risk of wildfire ignition(from the explosives used and stored on site,or
sparks from equipment),despite the mine being located in the highest risk level in the state for wildfire
probability, severity, and post fire impacts(maps from DNR,CSFS).The application does not provide sufficient
information to ensure protection of property and environment from a wildfire, flood,or other disaster.
X-The application does not provide any details on the proposed mill, processing, chemical use and storage,or
maps of underground operations to allow DRMS and others to understand whether it can successfully operate
as a DMO,while still protecting the environment, water quality, air quality and the community within and off
property.
X-The application provides insufficient information of transportation and how ore, tailings, and 20-40,000 cubic
yards of waste rock will be transported within the property and off. DRMS purview is on property with impacts,
and given the sheer anticipated amount of ore and waste rock production on site, this would likely lead to undue
harm to roads,the environment,wildlife,air quality,noise pollution,etc.There is not a sufficient transportation
or storage plan included in the DMO application.
X-The application fails to demonstrate how the mine will control water pollution during the mining operation
and in the long-term, post-mining.Given their history of water pollution citations,a detailed analysis of how the
mine is going to ensure future water quality protection is required under state law.
X-The application references a milling operation on site, but fails to provide sufficient information for DMO
review regarding the mill details, impacts and reclamation requirements when operating a milling operation on
site.
X—The application does not discuss impact studies regarding 50 years of trucks moving 70,000 tons of ore per
year on Caribou Road,on State Hwy 119,through the circle in the Town of Nederland and down the road.
Including, but not limited to noise, dust, road wear(who pays to fix the roads);and overall decreased quality of
life for residents and wildlife.
X—Fiscal responsibility concerning accountability for any and all of their actions;along with transparency,
including clear, weekly communications with Town of Nederland residents and government regarding
operations, violations and status is needed. Previous violations were discovered versus reported to residents.
Permitting Action Comment/Objection is Regarding
• New Permit Change to Existing Permit
Permit Number* (?)
Enter a valid permit number
M1977410
County*
Colorado County where the proposed operation is located
Boulder
Enter one county only
Site Name
Cross Caribou Mines
Perm ittee/Operator Name
Grand Island
