Please be as specific
as possible.
Comment/Objection Narrative*
The proposal to reopen and expand the Cross Gold Mine is deeply concerning. The sheer size of this operation,
with no description of the intent to protect the water and land, could devastate the surrounding community and
beyond. Mining can be conducted in ways that don't detriment the land and water. My father is a lifelong gold
miner,and I have worked at a mining company in the past,so I am not'anti-mining'.
The location of this mine is directly upstream from the town of Nederland and the reservoir that supplies
thousands of residents. I worry about the private land owners in direct proximity. I'm also concerned about the
protection of nearby public lands and the access to those public lands. I recreate in these areas every week. I
understand Caribou hill is not necessarily wilderness.Still, it is an important wilderness access point for many,
and a place I have grown fond of over the years. The extensive outdoor recreation and respect for wilderness
areas, wildlife, and land health are central to this community. If this operation fails to extend the basic,
achievable respect this land and community deserves, there will rightfully be no respect toward this operation.
Permitting Action Comment/Objection is Regarding
New Permit Change to Existing Permit
