Please be as specific
as possible.
Comment/Objection Narrative*
I am writing to voice my concern for the potential granting of an application for permission to expand the Cross
Mine above Nederland from its current 10 acre site to over 200 acres. At what point do we say no to continued
abuse of our lands? At what point do we say nature has a voice and we want to protect nature? I lived in
Nederland for 18 years and what makes Nederland so unique and incredibly special is the land and more so its
inhabitants. I would regularly have moose, elk, black bear, foxes, coyotes, bob cats, mountain lions, hawks,
dozens of incredible bird species like the Clarks Nutcracker and the elusive and shy Northern Saw-whet owls in
my backyard. There are very few places left on the planet that are like this, where wildlife truly is able to co-exist
with the onslaught of humanity building further and further into wild lands and spaces. When do we as humans
say no?We always say yes. In the name of capitalism, in the name of progress, in the name of growth. But is
that what we need?More growth, more concrete and more progress in smaller and smaller wild areas? It is so
discouraging to watch again and again how people win and nature ALWAYS loses.Always. Under the new
administration that we find ourselves in this is going to get even worse. We are a short-sighted,egocentric
species that thinks only about ourselves.Any kind of mining activity is going to have an incredibly adverse
effect on everything. The water, the wildlife, the land. Noise levels, light pollution and increased traffic will make
life up there a lot less beautiful. You have a choice to make a decision that might benefit the beautiful land and
wildlife that currently lives near the mine.Just say no to expansion. For once choose nature over resource
extraction.
