Please be as specific
as possible.
Comment/Objection Narrative*
Under Grand Island Resources'(GIR)ownership of the Cross and Caribou Mines in Boulder County there has
been a disregard for the health and safety of the western Boulder County community. This has evidence by the
Water Quality Control Division having issued a Cease and Desist Order to GIR in for violations of its discharge
permit, including exceedances heavy metals. The geographic location the Cross and Caribou Mines make them
perfectly located to pollute both ground and surface water supplies that the Nederland community depends
upon.Allowing renewed operations and expansion of the Cross and Caribou Mines is very likely to result in
more discharge exceedances that will necessarily imperil the health of the community and wildlife. In addition,
the public lands directly surrounding the mines sees significant and increasing public recreation. Expansion of
mining operations and expansion of commercial activity will impact and degrade the public's enjoyment of this
beautiful and accessible area for outdoor recreation. I implore the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety to
reject any reopening or expansion of the Cross and Caribou Mines, and to prioritize the protection of the
surrounding community and the ability of all Coloradans to enjoy the beautiful lands surrounding the mines.
Permitting Action Comment/Objection is Regarding
New Permit • Change to Existing Permit
