Please be as specific
as possible.
Comment/Objection Narrative*
I am a resident of Nederland,Colorado and I am asking you to please reject the permit to expand the Caribou
Cross Mine.As residents downstream from the mine,we are very concerned regarding the expansion and
increased activity with the potential to contaminate not only the entire town's water but also the upstream water
for the entire town of Boulder as well.As you are aware, the Cross Mine has had water contamination and
pollution issues in the last three years,as well as dubious reporting procedures. This is not an expansion or
reopening that should be approved now or in the future, considering the large amount of people's wellbeing at
risk.
I'd also like to note the overall environmental impact in expanding a mine at the top of a pristine mountain area
overlooking the entire range and the Eldora mountain. The habitat impact would be substantial.
Finally, I would also like to point out that the Caribou road leading to the mine itself suffers from extreme
instability, dangerous conditions, washing out,and crumbling. This would not be able to support increased
mining traffic and truck weight, and would also impact the safety of nearby residents using the road daily to
leave or return to their homes. The road also sees frequent tourism traffic for outdoor recreation, and this also
increases the danger for mine expansion.
Thank you for your time-our community is in objection to the mine expansion and we sincerely hope that you
will listen to our concerns.
