Please be as specific
as possible.
Comment/Objection Narrative*
As a Boulder County resident who recreates at Caribou regularly throughout the entire year and has friends and
family in the Nederland neighborhoods near the Cross Gold Mine, the extent of this conversion application is
alarming.A staggering 1959%increase of permit area will drastically and irrevocably damage the delicate
wilderness that is a focal point of Nederland's environment. My biggest concern are the water quality impacts.
Grand Island Resources has an extensive history of pollution that already led to the mine's closure in 2022 after
multiple years of compliance failures such as excessive traces of heavy metals in the watershed and failures to
submit pollutant reports. This company has thoroughly demonstrated that it willfully refuses to operate in a
manner that isn't harmful to the health and livelihood of all those in the watershed area with the current
operation area of 9.99 acres, clearly indicating that expanding their operation access by 195 acres would be
catastrophic to all residents and wildlife in Boulder County. These effects will be far-reaching and I cannot stand
for heavy metal poisoning from a company that hasn't even proven that the mine is capable of gathering
enough profit to justify its existence.
If the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety moves forward with allowing a dangerous company
to not only restart operations, let alone massively increase their access, then the irreversible destruction of
Boulder County's watershed and endangering of all its residents will be on your hands, with a proven track
record of no compelling profit.
Permitting Action Comment/Objection is Regarding
New Permit Change to Existing Permit
