Please be as specific
as possible.
Comment/Objection Narrative*
Mining activity on the significant acreage Grand Island Resources has applied to add to its current permit area
at the Cross Mine is not an appropriate use of this land which lies at the top of the water supply chain for
thousands of humans as well as land and aquatic wildlife. Extensive mining in such a fragile, pristine
environment is not compatible with preserving water and air quality that is critical for both adjacent communities
(namely Nederland)and highly populated areas downstream including Boulder. The area of the proposed
expansion is also a highly used recreation area for the entire Front Range population. Mining operations would
negatively impact what has now long been regarded as a valued tract of land that preserves Colorado's natural
heritage.Although the area is not officially designated as a nature reserve, it indeed functions as one as the
undisturbed land has come to shelter an area of important biodiversity. The application suggests mining activity
for as long as 50 years could take place but no long-term 50-year guarantee can be provided against water
contamination.Approving this permit application would endanger the health of humans drinking the water
downstream,as well as the valuable ecosystem existing in the area of the proposed Cross Mine expansion.
Permitting Action Comment/Objection is Regarding
New Permit Change to Existing Permit
