Comment/Objection Narrative*
I am opposed to any expansion of the Caribou Cross mine. I live right off Caribou Rd and ride my bike up to the
top frequently in the summer and ski up there in the winter. I see the impact of the increase activity at the mine
already, since the new ownership. They have not been as good of neighbors as they have said they will be.
There is an increase in truck traffic from the mine, often times speeding past me while I am riding my bike.
There is an increase in dust and air pollution at my house.
Additionally,at a meeting a few years ago with the mine operators and their lawyer, they assured us they were
not trying to close our access to recreation on our public lands.Yet now we find many no trespassing signs and
orange fencing in places that historically have been access points to Nation Forest land. I have been using
these trails for nearly 20 years, and they have been there for a lot longer than that.
I have concern about the condition of Caribou Rd above the mine's entrance, it appears to be collapsing, I've
also witnessed them spraying something into the mine shaft in that area that has over sprayed into the trees.
Not sure what it is though. I've also seen the creek in my back yard turn yellow at times, and would like
increased water monitoring.
Lastly, I would request a traffic survey done about the increase in traffic that will impact our neighborhood down
below the mine on Caribou. I can only imagine that is will be proportionate to the increase in size of what they
are asking. Is Caribou Rd even engineered and designed to handle the increase in size, weight and volume of
traffic that will come with this expansion?
Permitting Action Comment/Objection is Regarding
New Permit Change to Existing Permit
Permit Number* (?)
Enter a valid permit number
M1977410
Revision Type and Sequence
expansion
County*
Colorado County where the proposed operation is located
Boulder
Enter one county only
Site Name
Cross and Caribou Mine
Perm ittee/Operator Name
Grand Island LLC
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Are there supporting photos, maps, or documents you wish to upload?
Yes • No
By submitting this form electronically you agree to receive any/all follow up correspondence from the Division of
Reclamation, Mining, and Safety at the email address you have provided.
