Box 460 <br />Paonia, CO 81428 <br /> <br /> <br />Re: West Elk Mine (Permit No. C-1980-007) <br /> Revision: MR-486 <br /> Update of endangered species list in permit. <br /> <br /> <br />Dear Sir or Madam: <br /> <br />The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety has received an application for the above referenced <br />permitting action for the West Elk Mine. The application was deemed complete on March 13, 2025. <br /> <br />Minor Revision No. 486 (MR-486) seeks to update the Permit Application Packet (PAP) to reflect <br />recent changes to the Threatened and Endangered Species list. The Silverspot Butterfly (Speyeria <br />nokomis nokomis) was added to the list in 2024, and is known or believed to have range in Delta and <br />Gunnison counties. The Silverspot Butterfly relies on the presence of the Bog Violet (Viola <br />nephrophylla/V. sororia var. affinis) during its lifecycle. MCC states that these plants have not been <br />identified in the permit area to date. The applicant is not proposing additional surface disturbance <br />outside of the area currently approved for disturbance. <br /> <br />Permit Revision (PR), Permit Renewal (RN), or Technical Revision (TR) application materials are <br />available for review at the Delta County Clerk and Recorder, 501 Palmer Street, Room 211, Delta, <br />CO 81416; Gunnison County Clerk and Recorder, 221 N. Wisconsin, Gunnison, CO 81230 and at <br />the Division’s Denver office.
