Comment/Objection Narrative*
I object to application number M2024057 for FRICO to mine sand out of Milton Reservoir and operate a sand
sorting facility to the west of the reservoir. Many of the objections to this application mention the many effects of
running a mining operation:noise,light,dust,air quality,24/7 disturbance,decrease in property values,
obstruction of scenic views, and disturbance of a delicate ecosystem. I have all of these same concerns. These
are the factors that cause the proximity of a mining operation to a municipality to be part of the application
process and the decision to permit a mining operation. During a meeting at the Beebe Draw Farms
maintenance building on February 26th Scott Edgar, acting as a representative of FRICO,stated that Beebe
Draw Farms Metropolitan District does not qualify as a municipality. While technically we may not be a
municipality according to the definition that is used by the commission, that does not mean that the community
that consists of some 180 homes and approximately 500 residents cannot be a large factor in the consideration
of this application. Our home at the southeast corner of the community, along with many of our neighbors'
homes are well within a mile of the existing sand pile and proposed site of the sand sorting equipment causing
these many effects to be very real concerns in our daily lives.
In addition to the effects of mining operations,at least a couple of the objections submitted refer to a dispute
over the transfer of 422 acres of land to REI LLC that are currently being used by FRICO for their dredging
operation. I feel that this dispute should be resolved before FRICO is allowed to continue their current dredging
operation and certainly before they expand the current operation to include even more industrial equipment with
its accompanying effects.
During the past few years of this operation there has been a lack of communication as well as confusing and
conflicting information. The people in our community deserve a clear and enforceable agreement to monitor and
abate the effects of any operations that are to be permitted.
Permitting Action Comment/Objection is Regarding
New Permit Change to Existing Permit
Permit Number* (?)
Enter a valid permit number
M2024057
County*
Colorado County where the proposed operation is located
Weld
Enter one county only
Site Name
Permittee/Operator Name
FRICO
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Are there supporting photos, maps, or documents you wish to upload?
Yes • No
By submitting this form electronically you agree to receive any/all follow up correspondence from the Division of
Reclamation, Mining, and Safety at the email address you have provided.
