VLF2 Phase 3 Stage B Rockfill Method Specification NewFields Job No. 475.0106.069 June 14, 2024

Page 1
MEMORANDUM
To: Antonio Matarrese, CC&V
Daniel Egley, CC&V
Evan Fonger, CC&V
From: Tyler Wendlandt, NewFields
Project: VLF2 Phase 3 Stage B Construction
Project No: 475.0106.069
Subject: Structural Fill Compaction Method Specifications
Date: June 14, 2024

On June 13th, Holcim Group (Holcim) began construction of a test pad to develop a method
specification for structural fill with more than 30% rock material above the ¾-inch sieve size.
Holcim first prepared an area with a firm and unyielding surface along the south fill area
approximately N 57,690 E 38,200, at the 10,260 ft. elevation. The structural fill material was cut
from the existing Dump 1 Overburden north of the fill and spread into a two-foot lift with a D6
dozer. A grid was marked across the test pad and surveyed by Holcim Survey. These same points
were surveyed after each pass of the CS-56 vibratory sheepsfoot roller until an elevation change
of less than one half of 1 tenth inch (0.05”) lower than the last surveyed point was achieved on
average. It was found that this was achieved after two passes (one pass = forward and backward)
of the vibratory sheepsfoot roller.
A John Deere 470 excavator dug a test pit in the center of the test pad, verifying compaction
through the 2-foot-thick lift. A 966 loader then loaded the excavated material and transported it
to the contractor lay-down area for Particle Size Distribution testing.
Photographs of the method specification development are attached to this memo. The CQA
Monitor accepted the method specifications and all fills constructed with SF were performed in
accordance with them and project technical specifications.
If you have any questions or require additional information, please contact the undersigned.
Sincerely,

NewFields Mining Design & Technical Services
Tyler Wendlandt
Project Resident
9540 Maroon Circle
Suite 300
Englewood, CO 80112

T: 720.508.3300
F: 720.508.3339
