Mine personnel performed the weed inspection within the Mine site area on September 2024. The
areas sprayed, as described in Section 2.0 were inspected to determine how effective the
application of herbicides was. Neither the Permit, Plan or DR contemplates total weed removal
and recognizes that re-application or additional applications may be required.
2.0 Weed Control
In accordance with the permits mentioned above,if noxious weeds are identified, they are required
to be sprayed. Large infestations were sprayed by a licensed commercial contractor, Peaceful
Valley, along County Road 5/10 from its intersection with John Brown Road to the Mine entrance,
including the parking area. Smaller weed occurrences within the fenced mine area were sprayed
by Mine personnel using a backpack sprayer. The following summarizes the spraying activities.
Peaceful Valley completed weed spraying along County Road 5110 from its intersection with John
Brown Road to the Mine entrance, including the parking area. Spraying was performed in
conjunction with the Spring Survey, using BLM approved herbicides. Approximately 14 acres
were sprayed over the area as reported by Peaceful Valley (Appendix A).
Mine personnel completed weed spraying within the Mine site on September 2024.
Approximately two(2)acres were sprayed in the area around the Development Rock pile. Spraying
was performed using a backpack sprayer. A copy of the weed spraying form is attached as well
as a site map with the location sprayed highlighted in green in Appendix B.
3.0 Weed Species
As required by the Permit, State List A and B species scheduled for eradication that are found are
to be eradicated. Of those weed species identified in the inspection reports, two are listed on
Colorado's State List B species including Canada Thistle and Houndstongue. No State List A
species were identified by the inspections. Additionally, Field Bindweed, and Halogeton, were
identified and, although neither is a State List A or B species, they are State List C species and
noxious weeds are required to be managed according to the DR and Plan. Kochia and Point
Locoweed were also identified and while neither is listed in the Colorado State List of Noxious
weeds, both can be harmful to livestock and/or wildlife (elk, deer, antelope) and need to be
managed accordingly.
2
