Peaceful Valley Irrigation and Landscaping-Vegetation Management Division
Evaluation/Conclusions of Fall Inspection Whirlwind mine complex 2024
There were a few weeds found in treated areas during the fall inspection. Kochia(Bassia
scoparia), Thistle (Circium spp) and Field bindweed(Convolvulus arvensis) are the only
varieties that were found but were sparse at best throughout the control area. These populations
are being controlled and not spreading, but the seed base is still present and will need continuing
control for the years to come.
Overall roadway and 50 foot buffer is well maintained from any populations being established in
2024. The areas that have any populations are from seed base from previous years and will
persist until all parent plant seeds have exhausted their viability.
Thistle (Circium spp)this is four years in soil seed bank viability
Kochia(Bassia scoparia)this is five years in soil seed bank viability
The drastic decline in overall population indicates that the IPM program established in 2022
continuing through this year is working as expected and should continue.
The roadway through this location is public and has personal ORV traffic, bikes and other forms
of motorized vehicles traveling on it on a daily basis. This will continue to bring seed base on-
site as the lower areas still have large infestations of weeds that are currently not being controlled
and will be an ongoing problem for the years to come.
Inspection performed and submitted by;
Craig Martin
CEO Peaceful Valley
craig@peacefulvalleygi.com
