Cross Gold Mine
December 2024 K-5

Figure K-2. Recent Average Temperatures Across Colorado and Boulder County

The water ponds (Pond 1, 2, 3A, 3B, & 3C) at the Cross Gold Mine are the only locations onsite where
water is exposed to the atmosphere. Eventually, Pond 1 and Ponds 3A-C will be removed and replaced
with the improved water treatment system. Pond 2 will remain as a stormwater pond. The water
balance analysis in this section is applicable to any pond at the Cross Gold Mine.
Two scenarios drive water balance evaluation: storm event and snowfall. In the event of a storm event,
will the rain depth overwhelm the pond freeboard. In the event of snowfall, will the snow water
equivalent depth overwhelm the pond freeboard. For storm events, the 100-YR rainfall depth will be
used for evaluation. For snowfall, the snow water equivalent (SWE) depth for the peak snowfall depth
at the nearest SNOTEL station by Lake Eldora (9728’ AMSL) since snow does not fall or sublimate/melt
and evaporate in a brief time frame like a storm event. Evaporation will be ignored for the storm event
given its brief time frame. Sublimation will be included in snow fall evaluation given the extended time
frame of evaluation. Figure K-3 shows the min, max, and median snow depth for nearby Lake Eldora
over the water year (Oct-Oct).

Figure K-3. Lake Eldora Snow Depth
