M-2001-001 Line Camp Pit Amendment#2 (Expansion)
Comments and remarks:
From a letter by Robert Fuller, USDA NRCS (Cortez, CO): The current plant community consists of
introduced pasture grasses. Orchard grass and smooth brome are the two predominant grasses. Timothy
is evident in the adjacent, undisturbed site along the river. These 3 grasses tend to make up the bulk of
irrigated or sub-irrigated grass pastures established in the area. The site is heavily grazed and poorly
managed, especially from an irrigation standpoint. Bindweed, a perennial, noxious weed is beginning to
invade the field. Musk thistle and Western whorled milkweed are also present.
Improvement during mining:Because of the current condition of the area in and around the permit area,
it was recommended that actions be taken to stabilize and improve the overall condition of the areas not
disturbed or prior to disturbance:
1. Keep livestock off the entire area for at least a year.
2. Renovate entire stand of grass by chiseling, using a single pass in the direction of irrigation flow.
3. Mow the first year after renovation for weed control.
This information has been given to the landowner and he has been asked to perform this work. Since
this involves areas outside the permit boundary and affected lands, it is not included as a commitment
by the Applicant to carry out these recommendations.
See also Exhibit E for seeding information (both temporary/stockpile and permanent)
1. Seed mixes for topsoil protection and reclamation.
For temporary seeding for stabilization and protection of stockpiles:
Species,Variety Rate in lbs/acre, Rate in lbs/acre,
PLS, Broadcast PLS, Drilled
Slender Wheatgrass, Pryor 8.25 4.13
Sanfoin, Remont 12.50 6.25
TOTAL 20.75 10.38
Seeding will be done immediately after application of erosion control polymers, usually within seven days
of completion of a stockpile or length of stockpile, and followed by watering to establish the stand of
grass. This mix is based upon recommendations by USDA-NRCS(Robert Fuller, Letter of 17 AUG 2000 and
Fax of 30 AUG 2000):
For temporary seeding for stabilization and protection of stockpiles: Either use the
orchardgrass and meadow brome if you are going to irrigate the spoil pile. If not, a drought
tolerant, easily established mix such as perennial rye (Lolium perenne) with strawberry clover
(Trifolium fragiferum, var. palestine) would be adequate. All seedings should be mulched with
approximately 4000 lbs. of weed-free straw crimped into the seedbed with tracked equipment.
An alternative is a temporary mix consisting of sanfoin and slender wheatgrass, based on
watering for establishment(not permanent irrigation)
For areas where pasture will be restored, not immediately adjacent to ponds:
Species,Variety Rate in lbs/acre, Rate in lbs/acre,
PLS, Broadcast PLS, Drilled
Meadow Brome, Regar 5.5 2.75
Intermediate Wheatgrass, Onhe 5.0 2.5
Orchardgrass, Latar 0.8 0.4
Timothy grass, Climax 0.3 0.15
Cicer milkvetch, Monarch 2.4 1.2
TOTAL 14 7
5182-22-001 WASTELINE, INC.
