All surface water within the permit area is artificial due to mining into the alluvial aquifer.
b. Permit area and affected lands are located 100 feet or more from the OHWM of the
Dolores River on the SE edge of the permit area.
c. Floodplains include existing pit ponds which are not connected to either the river or its
ephemeral channels or to floodway and other portions of the floodplain by potential or
existing surface channels or swales: berm height is above the base flood elevation of the
100-year floodplain. New berms will continue to be constructed with similar elevations.
Flooding potential is based on either reverse flow from pipeline to outfall or infiltration
through alluvium.
d. There is potential for the Home Ditch, which runs along the western edge of the permit
area (just outside the SH-145 ROW) to receive surface flow both from upstream on the
river (including increased flows during flood events) and off SH-145. Otherwise, there is
no waterflow from the western slope of the valley which would discharge into the site.
e. Mining in the expansion area will increase the storage capacity for storm water in those
areas presently designated as part of the floodplain.
f. The existing floodplain maps do not accurately reflect the changes (increases) in
floodplain extent and capacity due to mining. They will continue to change as mining
continues, and expand in both surface area and volume available. There is no
anticipated change to the riverbed (below the OHWM) and the floodway.
5182-22-001 WASTELINE, INC. Page 37 of 65
