The dredge will move positions in the reservoir to follow the sand deposit following the <br /> counterclockwise progression described above. <br /> 3.0 INTENDED USE OF MINED MATERIALS <br /> Given that the materials mined from the basin are not solely sand,the process generates by-products in <br /> addition to the primary commodity.The different materials are described below: <br /> PRIMARY COMMODITY: FINE SAND <br /> • Fine sand consists of particles sizes ranging from a #30 sieve (0.0232 in or 0.595 mm) to a #140 <br /> sieve(0.0041 in or 0.071 mm). <br /> • This sand is specifically intended for use in hydraulic fracturing (fracking) in the oil and gas <br /> industry. <br /> INCIDENTAL PRODUCT#1: COARSE SAND <br /> • This by-product includes coarse sand and occasional gravel that is generated during the screening <br /> process. <br /> • Coarse sand can be sold as a construction material, commonly used for applications such as <br /> concrete production or other earthwork operations. <br /> INCIDENTAL PRODUCT#2: SILT/CLAY <br /> • This by-product comprises silts and clays that are finer than the desired frac sand. <br /> • These materials can be sold to the construction industry for various earthwork applications,such <br /> as backfill or amended to create growth media. <br /> 4.0 MATERIAL HANDLING <br /> The slurried material pumped from the dredge to the shoreline can be handled in three primary ways: <br /> 1. RESERVOIR DREDGING: Dredging occurs for about 9 months every year between March and <br /> November. It does not occur in the winter due to freezing conditions and low reservoir levels. <br /> Approximately 1.5 million cubic yards of material is dredged on an annual basis. <br /> 2. SETTLING POND DISCHARGE: Slurry can be pumped directly into a settling pond, where it is <br /> deposited and spreads out since it is a liquid consistency. The solids are allowed to settle and <br /> drainage from an underdrain and skimmer system help to dewater the mass. The underdrain <br /> collects water that drains through the settled solids, while the skimmer helps to remove surface <br /> water. Once the solids have been sufficiently dewatered, they are excavated and moved to a <br /> stockpile.This stockpile serves either as permanent storage or as temporary storage for materials <br /> to be sold to the construction industry. <br /> 3. HYDRO-CYCLONE PROCESSING: Slurry can be pumped directly to a hydro-cyclone. This process <br /> separates a large portion of the solids from the water improving the efficiency of the operation <br /> by being able to immediately place solids into a stockpile.
