2023 Cultural Resource Site Assessments for Collom Expansion Project Colowyo
Tetra Tech June 2023 24
For Official Use Only: Disclosure of Site Locations Prohibited (43 CFR 7.18)
was found. The mano is oval with two well ground faces and shaped edges measuring 7.9 cm by
10 cm by 2.5 cm.
In 2019, Tetra Tech revisited the site as part of the second round of assessments. The condition
of the site had not changed since the 2015 revisit. The mano identified in 2015 was relocated
along with one grey chert utilized flake. No other recorded tools or projectile points were relocated.
The site had not been affected by mining activities.
In 2023, Tetra Tech revisited the site as part of the third round of assessments (Figure 16). The
condition of the site has not changed since the 2015 revisit. The mano identified in 2015 and
relocated in 2019 was relocated during the revisit. No other 2005 recorded tools or projectile
points were relocated. Tetra Tech recommends that mining activities continue to avoid the site
until further assessment is completed to fully evaluated the site’s NRHP eligibility.
NRHP Status and Condition Assessment
In 2005 TRC recommended Site 5MF.6088 as needing additional data to determine its eligibility
for inclusion on the NRHP. TRC conducted two auger tests during recordation but did not
encounter any evidence of a subsurface cultural component(s). However, more intensive testing
was recommended to confirm the presence or absence of any component(s). Tetra Tech agrees
with this recommendation. The 2015, 2019, and 2023 revisits observed no significant changes or
impacts to the site. The site should continue to be avoided pending additional subsurface testing
to determine whether unobserved subsurface cultural material is indeed present at the site.

Figure 16. Site 5MF.6088 overview, facing north. Taken by E. Shikrallah on 5/16/2023.
