EXHIBIT I
Soils Information
See EXHIBIT C for soils map.
Soils
Soils range from approximately 8-12 inches in depth with the average depth being
ten inches. Soils are reddish-brown, and the surface layer lightly colored, with
moderate permeability and a high percentage of float rock and stones. The
proposed mining requires removal of vegetation along with underlying soil mantle
and overlying material that results in alteration of the landscape in the area. A
stormwater pollution prevention plan (SWPPP) would be prepared prior to mining
in compliance with Section 402 of the Clean Water Act and would describe
measures to minimize erosion and prevent soils from leaving each site during
mining activities. The measures outlined in the SWPPP would stabilize disturbed
areas during and after mining. During concurrent reclamation, portions of the
disturbance area will be reclaimed with live-hauled topsoil and these areas would
be reseeded. Upon final reclamation of the disturbance area and road, the surface
will be recontoured and any stored topsoil will be redistributed. All areas will then
be drill-seeded and mulched for vegetation success. Therefore, the proposed
action and other alternatives will not create a potential significant impact to soil
health.
9
