August 26, 2024 C-2010-089/New Horizon North Mine CCW

Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 1
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1

rills on the embankments. These rills have been documented in previous Division inspection reports. The rills are
small in size and have not impacted the pond’s stability.
There are three clusters of groundwater monitoring wells GW 53, 54 and 55, and GW 56, 57 and 58. The well
clusters were observed to be stable and in good condition. There was no evidence of erosion around the well
clusters. The caps for each of the wells in the clusters were intact.

ROADS – Rule 4.03
Construction 4.03.1(3)/4.03.2(3), Drainage 4.03.1(4)/4.03.2(4), Surfacing and Maintenance4.03.1(5) and
(6)/4.03.2(5) and (6), Reclamation 4.03.1(7)/4.03.2(7):

The southern access road was stable with no erosional concerns.

RECLAMATION SUCCESS - Rule 4.15, Rule 3:

Reclamation on areas on the west, east and southern boarders of the permit boundary, known as NHN-007 DP,
were reclaimed in the fall of 2023. The areas were backfilled, graded, topsoiled and seeded. The western portion
is where Pond 002 and the western ditch were located (Photo 2). The reclamation was stable with no erosional
concerns. No indications of differential settling were observed. Vegetation has begun to grow in and help
stabilize the area. Noted in previous Inspection Reports, the southern portion of the reclamation had a set of large
rills was observed connecting the older NHN-006 DP dryland pasture reclamation to the drainage culvert under
AA Road. The rills appeared to have formed due to tailwater runoff from the central irrigated pasture. The rills
were observed to have stabilized. The location of the rills has dense vegetative growth from the addition of the
tailwater runoff (Photo 3). The operator had installed a silt fence to reduce the amount of sediment transported
during the runoff. The silt fence was in good repair. The southern reclamation was stable with vegetative growth
(Photo 4). No other erosional features were identified and no differential settling was seen. The eastern portion of
the reclamation included the east ditch and the southeast corner of the disturbed area. The reclamation was stable
with no erosional features (Photo 5). There were no indications of differential settling. Vegetation seeded last fall
was growing in well.

SIGNS AND MARKERS – Rule 4.02:

Mine Identification signs were spotted at all entrances to the permit area. The signs displayed the permit number,
operator and Division contact information. Permit boundary markers were also noted to be posted on the fence
delineating the permit boundary. All signs were in good condition and legible. The signs were posted in easily
viewed locations.

TOPSOIL – Rule 4.06
Removal 4.06.2; Substitute Materials 4.06.4(4); Storage and Protection 4.06.3; Redistribution 4.06.4:

One remaining topsoil stockpile is at the mine site (Photo 6).
