A Wildlife Statement and request for comment letter on the
application will be sent to the Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife(CDPW)when the
application is found complete.
(b) Seasonal use of the area:
There are no known significant seasonal uses of the proposed area for wildlife. Since the
site is proposed to be mined in phases and each phase will be reclaimed in sequence,
significant impact on wildlife should be minimal.
(c) The presence of threatened or endangered species:
There are no known threatened or endangered animal species on the proposed permit
area. However, we are waiting on the CDPW response to our comment letter in order to
address this question.
(d) Describe the effect of mining and reclamation activity during and after the
proposed operation on existing wildlife:
Given this will be a phased mining operation,with reclamation following in sequence;
the proposed operation should have a minor impact on wildlife. Once mining and
reclamation are complete, the area will be returned to its pre-mining use, rangeland. Any
impact which might have occurred in relation to wildlife should be mitigated through site
reclamation.
(2) Division of Parks and Wildlife comments:
A request shall be sent, certified mail,to the Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife
(CDPW). We will provide a copy of their response, if received. Where possible, the
Operator/Applicant will attempt to minimize impacts to wildlife and follow CDPW
recommendations.
38
